Imperial Villa of Casale is a very popular tourist spot. but it is so much more and a must see if you ever come to Sicily. It is one of the most remarkable signs of roman presence in Sicily. It is a very well preserved and cured roman villa made with millions of mosaic pieces telling stories from the great Roman Empire.

The rooms for festivities had toilets nearby and did not have a door. When the rich roman aristrocrats went to the toilet, they kept on the conversation with the people next door and woth those sitting next to them.

These mosaics are real art. Countless hours must have been spent to make them. Most stunning is the fact that they show how similar everyday life was at that time to ours today. The bikini girls are marvelous. The erotic pieces always make me wonder why society has become more rigid since the Roman days, and not less. Today even lesbian erotic romance poems like those written more then 2000 years ago by Sappho ( ) wouldn't be published in many countries, even though they are not explicit, but only describe the love two women have for each other.

The more I explore the world outside general travel tracks, I get the same image that the world has become more rigid...and more every day.
We speak about freedom and technology, but they were much more ahead those days in many ways.
