Metropole and Champagne

m
Metropole Hotel in Taormina has become one of my favourite places for just relaxing with a great view. You find this place in the middle of Corso Umberto. They often have jazz evenings, and from the large terrass you can enjoy the view to Etna, Giardini-Naxos and over the Mediterranean sea that never ends.

Metropol is also a show you up place (in italian Farsi Vedere). I like to observe these people. Men in Gucci ties and women with expensive shopping bags hanging from the side of the chair, sits with their back up straight sipping their coctails and chatting, observing others and carefully checking others designer bags and what they have bought. Despite all this I have never seen so many LV fake bags in one place and also started to notice italian gigolos here with a new woman every week; she pays for drinks, he tries to look interested, every week different ages in new dresses. This place is lika a mini movie of real Taormina that changes with new stars. Observing the happenings while sipping my champagne.? Snacks comes with.

Snacksen ?r inkluderade.

Ok, I tell you…

Eng: I get some mails from dear blog followers of how I made it. Well, first of all I’m not super rich here and I don’t want to be. This Sicily experience is about finding life quality not quantity as it was before.
In my family from my fathers side we have been entrepreneurs for many generations. From my mothers side most are in the medicine or technical business and graduated from universities. I have never been pushed to be something in my life, actually my father told me many times I don’t care if you work at McDonalds, as long as you are happy! but the business mind I got from him and patience to achieve things from my mother.
How I managed to get ahead in Sicily is simply by listening to advices and then do the opposite!
Because one thing I learned about advices you havn’t asked for are people who advice you for their benefit or to make you fail! E.g. I never have a female hair dresser, PT, relationship-?or fashion adviser etc., why? What do you think?

Ordinary life observations

Eng: In Sicily, I feel safe. Not afraid to go out at night. Not afraid that someone will break into my home. Rarely read about civil assault on the streets and the bank robbers who are on the move?are usually found. Very impressed that men who kill their wives are sentenced to long prison sentences, the last 35 years behind bars and not that these cases?are just?swept under the carpet as a family brawl.

Crime?are not prescribed, old cases are dealt with new technology. The woman in the fruit shop smiles cheerfully and asks Ah, so you’re on the morning tour?today. Not afternoon?. So accustomed to no one sees me. Still backing when?many?questions are asked?and not learned that they ask out of curiosity and not to want to hurt you or looking for other things. Growers and producers, their friends provides contacts and?information ’cause they want to help one. It takes time before they trust you, but when they do, take good care of it.

Signorina, Signorina … il scontrino …! Cried the man from the bread shop. I do not need the?receipt! But have to take it?if the financial police happen to check my purchase and I go without a receipt. It would end the retailer in trouble.

Somehow I get the impression that as a human being, you are worth more here.

On tour with new ones

Sicilianare brukar skr?mma upp nya p? ?n med orden: Mutui, cosa nostra e’! = Var tyst, det ?r v?ran sak!
D? fr?gar de nya lite sk?rrade: Tr?ffade vi verkligen p? maffian d?r?

F?rs?ker h?lla mig f?r skratt och?lyckas beh?lla allvaret.

Eng:

Italians often say Fra il dire e il fare c’? ‘di mezzo il mare = Between saying and doing?there’s an ocean.
Sicilians tend to scare up new ones?on the island with the words: Mutui, cosa nostra e ‘! = Be quiet, it’s our thing!
Then new ones ask bit uptight: Did we really the?maffia there?

Trying not to laugh and succee to?retain seriosity.

Do you have to be married to live around here…

Jahaa, vad trevligt att bo p? Sicilien, s?ger mannen i andra sidan luren. Hur l?nge har du bott d?r, gift med en sicilianare f?rst?r jag? Barn? Har du detta som deltids aktivitet?

Har bott h?r snart tv? ?r och inte gift eller s?. Bor sj?lv, svarar Jojo.

—————————————————-
Eng: Ah, yes, how nice to live in Sicily, says the man in the other end. How long have you lived there, married to a Sicilian I understand? Children? Do you have?this as part time activity?

Have lived here almost two years and not married or anything, responds Jojo.

And then there?is silence in the other?end and what the phone call would actually be about came off a bit…or maybe that the answer he got did?not matched the?expected.

Why do I always get these questions? Must a woman be married to move to Sicily? Part time activity?

Most frightening is that no Italian men wonders, but men from countries where women have freed themselves (as they say). Have checked with male colleagues and they never get these questions. Have more than one full-time job. How?would I have?time with a man full time?
And Jojo is thinking…

It’s a beautiful world out there – Silence

The port at Marina di Ragusa

Hamnen i Marina di Ragusa ?r ett mycket lyckat bygge tack vare EU fonder. Dock ?r hyrpriserna mycket h?ga vilket gjort att halva kapaciteten blir nyttjad. Kanske ger en vink hur aff?rer g?rs p? Sicilien.
—————————
Eng: The port of Marina di Ragusa is a very successful construction thanks to EU funds. However, rental prices are very high which mean that half of the capacity is used. It maybe gives a hint how business is done in Sicily.

The season is soon over

————————————
Eng: Now the doors shut one by one before the fall. Summer, holiday, relaxing days has ran out of people and it’s time to embark on new 11 months of real life before the holiday comes again. The church bells sound has slowed down, opening hours shortened in food stores, restaurant menus are starting to adjust prices to normal, sale in all the beach shops, icecream varieties are less and society begins to calm down. Nightly chaos, accidents, laughter, the sound of high heels, crazy parkering solutions, cordoned off streets reduces every weekend.
Now comes the autumn.
It’s still warm outside.

Life goes up and down…

———————————–
Eng: Sometimes life feels like a knot. A knot that will never go up. The desire to just give up, no strength any more, start turning burgers on a grill instead. Why do I bother? For what? And in this little moment forgotten everything you have achieved. But beneath the surface theres a burning will…a drive that is hard to drop.

———————————-
Eng: If these plants can grow in a rocky landscape, so who am I to whine? This symbolizes the strength for me. To get up and get ahead! Not to forget everything that are and will be.

Ok, who do you think you are?

Snuskgubbe!
—————————————————–
Eng: Going on a business trip is quite interesting. I pay all travels myself, for what happens if a male director plan and pay the trips? Well, he books a doubleroom with an excuse to save money. These things I don’t agree with and the director sleeps in the reception. This is incredibly common in Italy.

If you are an employee, he can threaten to fire you and can even do so.

Dirty old man!
