Out in the Sicilian Citrus fields

When I am out in the fields it is like paradise. You breath fresh air, look at all the hard work people do by hand and you are where we should be…in the nature. I feel free. This is one of my favourite part of my work, but also the most difficult. Regulary I visit all fields where fruits and vegetables grow to update with changes and varieties, all this then sent to buyers in Europe. With the producer we collect all information. For citrus it takes about three days and for vegetables approximately a week, from morning to evening, including writing the summary to buyers. Welcome to a small tour in the organic citrus fields; lemons, grapes and oranges.

Francofonte – Face Facade

Francofonte is a cosy mountain town just 30 minutes fron Catania, on the road towards Ragusa. It is called Francofonte, which means From the Source, because it was one of the few towns where the water was free and not taxed. In the center you can also find a very special building with many faces in the facade. Each face has a different expression. The town is also located in one of the orange districts in Sicily.

Orange Fest in Centuripe

Sicilians love food so much that they celebrate each food. Yesterday we went to an orange fest in Centuripe to taste jams, cakes and much more made with oranges. Even the food buffets dishes had oranges as flavor. These fiests are very nice and here you find local artisan produce and you can buy directly from local companies. Of course you could by orange trees too.

Tarocco

This orange variety is called Tarocco and is my favorite orange of them all. It is a red orange in Sicily, but seen as a white orange in Europe. It has the perfect combination between the white and red orange.
