Living by the Salt Uptakes

When visiting Trapani area I always choose the accommodation by the salt uptakes. Easy access to Trapani (just 10 minutes by coast road), to Erice (30 minutes), close to Marsala and wine districts. It is also a calmer area as Trapani is quite of a messy town.

N?r jag bes?ker Trapani-omr?det v?ljer jag alltid boende vid saltupptaget. Enkel ?tkomst till Trapani (bara 10 minuter kustv?gen), till Erice (30 minuter), n?ra till Marsala och vindistriktet. Det ?r ocks? ett lugnare omr?de d? Trapani ?r en? ganska r?rig stad.

Pit Stop Trapani

Trapani is a quite well known coast town on the west side of Sicily. Had a huge tourism boom when the airport was made a Ryanair airport, but now struggling to keep the numbers up. Trapani is not my favourite city, but the old town is really worth a visit. Beautiful baroque style with nice shops, wine bars and traffic free zones. Park the car in front of the harbor and walk the few minutes in. In Trapani you should eat the classical couscous with fish soup. The city is also well located between two important wine districts, Alcamo and Marsala. I would recommend to book a stay on the countryside of Trapani. We visited just couple of hours to eat after a wine tour.

Trapani ?r en ganska k?nd kuststad p? v?stra sidan av Sicilien. Hade en enorm turismboom n?r flygplatsen gjordes till en Ryanair flygplats, men k?mpar nu f?r att h?lla siffrorna uppe. Trapani ?r inte min favoritstad, men gamla stan ?r verkligen v?rt ett bes?k. Vacker barockstil med fina aff?rer, vinbarer och trafikfria zoner. Parkera bilen framf?r hamnen och g? de f? minuterna in. I Trapani borde du ?ta den klassiska couscousen med fisksoppa. Staden ligger ocks? bra till mellan tv? viktiga vinomr?den, Alcamo och Marsala. Jag rekommenderar att boka boendet p? landsbygden utanf?r Trapani. Vi stannade bara ett par timmar f?r middag efter en vintur.

We decided to stop by a wine bar and take in local Focaccia and Tagliere (cheese and chark).

by the Marsala wind mills

This is one of the most beautiful areas in Sicily, Marsala, by the windmills and natural salt uptake. This area is also a big wine production area, for miles and miles ahead you can walk by the wine plants. A little bit further, as you can see in the last photo, this is also a popular place for kitesurfing.

One big fat reason to visit Chiesa Nuova

If you are in the Trapani, Segesta area please pass this restaurant in Chiesa Nuova, a bit north of Trapani. The restaurant went to top three restaurants in Sicily. It is run by a sicilian who before worked as a chef in London. Mixed great restaurant service and ideas with the sicilian cuisine. It is easy to find as there is only one street in Chiesa Nuova and the resturant is somewhere in the middle of the village. Best pizzas ever and here I had my Trippa experience. The restaurants name is La Mitica Campagnola.

Om du ?r i Trapani/Segesta omr?det, v?nligen passera denna restaurang i Chiesa Nuova, en bit norr om Trapani. Restaurangen gick till topp tre restauranger i Sicilien. Den drivs av en sicilianare som tidigare arbetat som kock i London. Blandat med bra restaurang service och id?er med det sicilianska k?ket. Det ?r l?tt att hitta eftersom det bara finns en gata i Chiesa Nuova och restaurangen ?r n?gonstans i mitten av byn. B?sta pizzor n?gonsin och h?r jag hade min Trippa erfarenhet. Restaurangen heter La Mitica Campagnola.

Tuna Party at Tonnara di Bonagia

Sicily is filled with foods and it is a typical sicilian thing to celebrate all produce. We happened to find this tuna feast in Bonagia on the west coast just by passing by. These feasts are a collaboration between the municipality and local companies to create a food event where visitors eat typical local foods and drink local wine. The price is very low: we paid 14 euro for two!

Dessa h?gtider ?r ett samarbete mellan kommunen och lokala f?retag f?r att skapa ett mat evenemang d?r bes?karna kan ?ta typiska lokala livsmedel och dricka lokalt vin. “Eat Bread” Cave – Grotta MangiaPane in Custonaci

Mangia Pane cave lays just by a small seaside town on the Sicilys west coast called Custonaci. Here you find traces from the earliest population in Sicily, called Siculi. They lived in caves. The same area is filled with traces from other populations until this day when local people every year hold several feasts by the cave. The cave is still a small rural farm with animals and food produce.

Samma omr?de ?r fylld med sp?r fr?n andra populationer tills denna dag d? lokalbefolkningen varje ?r h?ller fleratal fester vid grottan. Grottan ?r fortfarande en liten lantlig g?rd med djur och livsmedelsproduktion.
