Aeolian Lipari – Pumice stone and Around the island vespa tour

Lipari is slow living island north of Sicily, part of the Aeolian islands. Here Pumice stone was extracted for stone washed jeans and the beauty industry. After 2nd world war Mussolini’s daughter was placed in exile here.

As to this date you can bring your car with if booked an accommodation, easiest is though by Vespa.

Lovely Lipari

These amazing islands around this island Sicily! Had the pleasure to visit Lipari, the largest island of all Aeolian islands. Had just couple of hours here so I went with a round tour of the island with the taxi drivers by the harbor. Next time when I stay longer I rather rent a Vespa to drive around myself and see the places better. All houses has flat roofs to collect rain water as they have tanks in the basements to keep water supply in their homes. Here I saw stunning views and eat the best Arancini during my soon to be eight years here in Sicily.

Sicilien.

Milazzo from the sea

Milazzo is just 15 minutes by car west of Messina. It is the gateway to the vulcanic Aeolian islands, also called the Seven Sisters. From the peak end of Milazzo you can see to Vulcano which is the closest island, and behind you can see in a clear day also Lipari which lays behind Vulcano island. (Last photo)

(Sista bilden)
