Hiking to Monte Scarpello

Monte Scarpello lies just 40 minutes east from Catania. In this mountain top lived 200 Hermits until 1550 and the population vanished 1800 when the Vatican tax system reached the area. Then bandits stole everything that had some kind of worth. And during 1940 it was under police control to save this historical place. Here they lived in peace because everyone minded their own business, had their own place and own agricultural activity. On the top, approximately 4km from the road, you find a church that is still functioning and where they hold religious fests in the beginning of May each year. The church belong to two municipalities and the aisle in between divides the church to Agira and Castle Iudica. Here you can find leftovers from three munks people still pray to.

We walked all the way up. It is 4 km up-hills and takes about two hours.

Monte Scarpello ligger bara 40 minuter ?sterut fr?n Catania.

Early spring colors of sicily

Standing on the peak, having this majestic land infront of me makes feel alive, fills me with energy and gratitude…it makes me feel reborn! This colorful energetic land of Sicily, filled with colors and rough seasonal changes that makes me feel so small, that makes me feel so lucky, that makes me feel so blessed to be filled with spiritual winds giving me strength to continue on the path I have chosen to walk on. Something holds me here, still I do not know what it is. It is a powerful force I still have to discover. Only thing I can give back is gratitude…

I need some time to just breathe and take it all in…
