Have seen some interesting documentaries about how different continents were created on the earth we live on today and in one was mentioned how Sicily was created. It was the north plate and south plate that collided and gave Sicily the unique environment with much water, hills and valleys. Then the volcanic area helped to create the north part of Sicily and the islands. During this special hike to the ancient Palagonia, 400 m.a.s.l, I could touch history with my own hands. You can see traces and fossils from that collision on the photos below. It is amazing that in this height see and touch sea shells and water levels (third photo)? in the mountain stone and walls.
