Catania Fish Market

The coolest place in Catania is not doubt the fish market. Largest fish market in Italy open Monday – Friday 07:00 – 12:00, Saturday 07:00 – til sold out. Less crowd than usual caused by Lock Down, but life goes on.

Färre människor än vanligt orsakat av Lock Down, men livet går framåt.

A Sicilian delicacy

Sea bass baked in salt in low temperature in the oven. These we eat at Da Lorenzo in Santa Tecla (below Acireale). Yummy! Book a table, a very popular restaurant.

The story about Colapesce

ColaPesce Legend ? The man who holds up the Sicilian island

Cola was a boy who loved the sea and spend most of the days swimming and diving. His mother told him that soon he will turn in to a fish, she was not very passionate about her sons hobby. Cola was excited about all the things he discovered in the sea and told everyone fascinating stories. One day the stories reached the king of Sicily that time, Federico II. He got curious about the boy and asked him to dive as deep as he could to find out what holds the Sicilian island up. When he came back Cola told the king that Sicily is held by three columns but one of them has been damaged by a furious fire. Sicily risks to collapse into the sea.

The King and inhabitants got very afraid and asked Cola for help to dive deeper to see what could be done to avoid this. Even if Cola knew diving that deep was very risky, he decided to help his people. Cola sadly never returned. Everyone said he has become half man and half fish, and remained under the sea supporting the third column preventing Sicily to be submerged by the sea.

Cola = Pojkens namn, Pesce = Fisk p? italienska

Stellamarina – Beach, Sun & Giardini

It may sound strange but I am not a hudge fan of the beach even living in a sun and sea island. But there is a lovely beach club at the end of the Recanati beach where the sea is amazing and not much tourists around. The beach club has no color coordination, nor the beach beds in order and a simple kitchen. Just so Sicilian it can be! Stella Marina.

Stella Marina.

A simple lunch for three

In Sicily food is not just simple fuel for energy. Food is the soul of this island. The table where you meet friends, where family gathers, where words are exchanged and amazing tastes are enjoyed. A lunch of two and half hours is considered normal in Sicily. And while you eat, you talk about what to eat the next occasion, next christmas, next summer and what you eat in the past. Food gathers people and get everybody to slow down as the meal is often several dishes and it is not something you just grab and run.

P? Sicilien ?r inte mat bara enkelt br?nsle f?r energiproduktion. Mat ?r sj?len p? denna ?.

La Falena – my first restaurant visit ever

When I came to Sicily the first time 2007 I spent my four week holiday in Marina di Ragusa area. It is also the area where Montalbano is filmed. There I found this amazing restaurant called La Falena and we eat there almost every night during these four weeks. Every time I travel here I alwasy eat at La Falena.? Do reserve a table as locals eat here and it is full almost every night.

This young man designed our dinner which of course was fish. The south sicilian cuisine is more innovative than other areas in Sicily and here we eat herb cooked fish and an amazingly beautiful sicilian Cannolo for dessert.? Best way to eat in Sicily is to let the chef decide your meal, or the waiter. La Falena has remained as one of my favourite restaurants in Sicily.

Sicilien.

2 hours in Trapani

We had some time over before driving back home to Catania, so we decided to eat dinner in Trapani. Trapani is very nice by the harbor where also the old town is. Have two main roads and several small cosy streets with nice bars, restaurants and shops.
