Forza D’Agro – Godfather, failed investments and Normans

Forza D’Agro is a small village of 890 people and sadly depopulating. Famous for its Godfather movie scene with the wedding between Michael Corleone and Apollonia.

Also Normans has been here building a large castle on the mountain peak with loopholes and a secret passage. Unfortunately the panorama gets ruined due to a failed real estate investment where all equipment is just left there high and low.

Savoca – Godfather and the Normans

Savoca is a small town with 1700 inhabitants located north of Taormina. Famous for the Godfather trilogy with Bar Vitelli and the church where Michael married his Sicilian wife Apollonia.

Opera Cavalleria Rusticana

Cavalleria Rusticana is an opera in one act by Pietro Mascagni. It premiered on 17 May 1890 in Rome but became world famous thank to the Godfather trilogy. I went to see it at Greek Theatre in Taormina. It has the perfect length of one hour and ten minutes.

The story takes place in a 19th-century Sicilian village and is in Sicilian language. It is a typical love story drama with betrayal, love and drama. You can read the whole story HERE.

Grekiska Teatern i Taormina.

Savoca – visiting the Godfather village

Sicily has hundreds of cosy small villages to visit all with a story to tell. One tired day in the office we decided to just drop it all and drive to Savoca for a coffee to get away from work a projects. This village is just 20 min drive from Taormina where you find complete silence and relax. Here you can have a coffe and cake at the famous Bar Vitelli from the Godfather triology. The bar sells a very nice book about this film. Please ask for it from the cashier as this book was actually the last copy for this season. They promised to buy in more.

Part of Godfather triology in Forza D’agro’

This place in Forza D’Agro’ is in first part of Godfather triology. The church that appears when Michael goes to Corleone for the first time along with his bodyguards. It appears again in the second part when Vito escapes to America while Don Ciccio’s men threaten the neighbors. Also when young Vito and his family visit Corleone.?

Forza D’Agro – Godfather village

Forza D’Agro’ is a small mountain village just 20 minutes north of Taormina. Here also scenes from Godfather are made. Was surpriced to see that the only Godfather sign was a restaurant called Il Padrino, but then the village has not made any PR for the most interesting things to do, to visit the places where scenes are filmed. I had to ask a pizza restaurant where to go.
It is a very cosy village to spend half day and for lunch. Many narrow streets and an amazing view.
For lunch is better to walk a little but further from the main Piazza. Better quality of foods and calmer.
