Savoca – Godfather and the Normans

Savoca is a small town with 1700 inhabitants located north of Taormina. Famous for the Godfather trilogy with Bar Vitelli and the church where Michael married his Sicilian wife Apollonia.

Also the Normans has been here with traces seen on one of the city gates still standing and remains of the Norman castle on the hill top.

Messina – Norwegian aid dish, harbor & imaginary bridge

The highlight of Messina is the main church with a astronomical clock tower offering a clock show everyday at 12:00. 1908 the city was struck by an 7,1 earthquake and Norway sent two ships of cod as aid and Messina’s main dish Stocco alla Messinese was created. In the video I also visit the imaginary bridge area and best view sites.

Messina is a city with 236000 inhabitants where the the harbor connects Sicily with Calabria by mafia controlled ferry traffic. Will the bridge ever be built?

Sicilian Stonehenge – Megaliths of Argimusco

Visited a very magical place in Sicily, The Megaliths of Argimusco, also called The Sicilian Stonehenge. No one knows if these rocks are manmade or formed by nature. Here your find many forms of the rocks looking like a face, a Chimpanzee, a praying woman, a Fenix and more if you just let the imagination fly free. Not only are the rocks fascinating, but also the stunning views over Sicily in every direction. This place needs time to visit as it is filled with energy. I spent four hours here until sunset.

Overnight I stayed in the medieval town Montalbano Elicona. Just 15 minutes by car and another interesting place to visit.

Besökte en mycket magisk plats på Sicilien, Megaliths of Argimusco, även kallad The Sicilian Stonehenge.

Wine event by Wine Not?

Through my new company Sicily Wine & Dine, that I am building up, I received a very nice invitation from Sabatina wine association to participate in their wine event Wine Not? It held place in north Sicily in a romantic small mountain village called Sant’Andrea with over 20 wine producers present. Here I found couple of interesting suppliers in the organic wine field. Also learned about a new wine variety called Faro which is a mix of five local wine grapes.

It was one of the best wine events I’ve been to, very well organized and they kept the food area in another location so one could concentrate on wine only. They even had ice boys walking around to make sure white and brut wines were constantly chilled.

Sicily*food feast*boar meet*cuzzola paninis

In Sicily food is the center part of peoples lives. While they eat, they talk about what they will eat the next meal, what they eat yesterday, last christmas, their mothers last birthday party, coming christmas, nephews baptism and so on….

Food fiests are arranged all over the island and there is a feast somewhere almost every week. Many of them has become way commercial, but there are many local small feasts around where you can eat local delicacies. We visited a small village called Antillo, a hidden mountain village north of Etna in Messina province. So small that even the road gets tiny. Here the had the annual boar meat feast for only two days. Everything made in original style, even with wooden ovens.

Here with local boar meat just from the butcher and a glass of local made wine for 50 cents.

The local bread is called Cuzzola. A very light bread where basic ingredients are local wheat, olive oil, salt… can not be found anywhere else in Sicily. Of course baked in old style owens with wood fire. In Sicily the variety of bread changes in each region and also the color. In this area it is more white, in Ragusa area more yellow. We decided to eat a Cuzzola sandwich for dinner, price was just two euro. Filled with grilled sweet pepper, olive oil and boar sausage. They also offer complete menus with first dish pasta, second dish grilled, wine and water for only ten euro.

Det lokala br?det heter Cuzzola. Ett mycket l?tt br?d d?r grundl?ggande ingredienserna ?r lokalvete, olivolja, salt … kan inte hittas n?gon annanstans p? Sicilien. Naturligtvis bakas i gammal stil med vedeldade ugnar. P?

Land Fraud against the Region of Sicily

The region of Sicily has found out that a major fraud is going on in Messina, northeast Sicily, where a family claims to own 150 hectares of land and tries to sell it for 15 – 30 million euro. The land is actually regional property. This is a huge scandal and the regional staff is in Messina today to solve this and has also launched an investigation to other provinces to see if similar frauds has happened on going on.

You can find names and notary office involved in the fraud online.
