Many protests are also calculated in the program and security work.

When the sky came down

We have had rains for about 10 days, with small sun pauses. But yesterday we had couple hours of 170 mm rain and thunder that created this disaster in the little village of Letojanni. Same damages in Giardini-Naxos, Taormina sea side and rocks fell also in Castelmola. This happens every year when the rain season comes. Last year it was worse as it rained for three days and even a bridge to Taormina fell 4 cm. The damages are high because the rain runs on the streets and the municipalities does not care to clean the sewers nor build 2-3 water systems so the water can run directly to the sea, instead on the roads into the small cities. They have money to do it, but they do not care. The small residential areas above these villages will not last more than 4-5 years and they will come down towards the cities below. Already some parts has started to tumble.

For example Letojanni is closed now for clean up and no one is allowed to enter the village. People complain to the police because they can not do their groceries. So I guess that summaries what the local mentality is all about. I have not more to add.

So what has happened in Sicily this weekend

So what has happened in Sicily this weekend.

– In Palermo some gas stations has sold petroleum to a very advantageous price. Couple of gas station owners are arrested for selling petroleum aimed for the agricultural sector in their gasstations for a very low price. And that kind of rumours walks fast here! A fast growing queue…

– In Licata 50 households has been without electricity for a long time since the copper got stolen from the electricity lines. The municipality is reported and no one knows when it will be fixed.

– In Enna the municipality voted to use the new anti-corruption bill for public offices. 46 politicians of 200 protested by calling in long term sickness. All of them has presented valid medical certificates.

– In Catania the police has found a commercial warehouse…filled with stolen goods.

So that is a little bit what happened in Sicily this weekend…and tomorrow is a new week…life goes on.

S? vad har h?nt p? Sicilien i helgen.

Thoughts regarding Woman’s Day

Women’s day is big business in Italy and needs to be…all year around. As a woman from Sweden with a total different start in life and possibilities, comparing to my italian sisters who are not often so lucky, I make sure to have 365 days and consider that as a swedish woman with my knowledge and unique freedom has a duty to spread the knowledge which women who have worse. I am lucky being born in Sweden. Yes, I am and I am not ashamed to say it.
In Sicily still too many women are raised up with learnings that other women are not to be trusted, sisters are learnt to be servants to their brothers, mother in laws interfering in her children’s relations which leads to separations and is the cause number one in Italy for divorce. Mothers who work for a living and still do all the housework in a culture where a man still does not lift a finger, instead see this as a woman’s responsability. Italian female politicians more present in female magazines than actually spending time to make a difference. Naked women dancing in TV with older men hosting the show. Female TV shows that talks more about plastic surgery and get mothers in shape, than lifting up women who fights for a change. I do not go to cafes in Sicily where they have e.g. sugar bags with text like “Men who listens to women does not go to heaven”. Yes, you find texts like that at a cafe at piazza Duomo in Catania.
It is obvious that still few italian men will stand up for a change, so it is up to women to do it. Like our grandmothers did for us over hundred years ago. The text below is like the women was in ancient cultures; viking, indian, african…then something happened.
There are amazing italian women making a difference, also in Sicily. The time to give them a voice has arrived. It is thanks to them small changes starts to come…because going againts old religious traditions in Sicily is not easy. As a foreign woman I have passed difficult times with that issue too….but imagine the moments locals face. Congratulations to all the Italian and Sicilian women who make a difference! All love and strenght to you!?

Piazza Duomo i Catania.

Mafia and Anti-Mafia the same thing?

The ex-president of Sicily, Lombardo, got convicted to a jail sentence some time ago, and he is in jail. The reason is mafia affairs, economic frauds against the public administration. So, even if he got convicted of mafia affairs he is still getting 6000 ?/net monthly from the new Sicilian government that so hard and openly makes PR to be Anti-Mafia and fighting mafia. The president for Sicilia, Crocetta, has been in the EU anti-mafia organisation.
And they still pay 6000? to a convicted mafia man?

Source: TG5, news in the local radio

A quite silly campaign

Some here has started to blame Germany for the crises in Italy and of course a politician took the idea and created a political campaign of it saying Europeans, not germans. The? crises in Italy is blamed on the Euro and germans, also TV shows paradise programs about Germany that gives a quite wrong idea of it all. But the fact is also that Euro is a currency also in other countries where there ain’t crises the same way as in Italy. Then actually most sicilians are not EU friendly. Most sicilians says they would like an independency for Sicily, their own currency and be just sicilians.

Good luck?
Perhaps he will get score some votes for the blaming part at least…
Everytime I see this add I would like to call him and say “Get a haircut, grow up and find a job!”

Immigration is not a sudden situation in Sicily

I was quite upset by the swedish media many times before and have stop reading it, I just read some articles I see others post on Facebook. One that made me very upset these days was an article claiming that the immigration situation in Sicily is a sudden situation. After the catastrophe with hundreds of immigrants who drowned in the sea not much has happened. People die everyday in the sea.

Politicians have been here…and looked at the situation…and then gone home. It’s not a sudden influx of refugees. It has been like this for years. Year after year !
Mediterranean sea is known locally as? the sea of Dead”. When I lived in southern Sicily and drove home at night so often I saw groups walk on the way towards north or hide at the beach or the greenhouses in the area. They do not stay in Sicily, the goal is often France, Belgium and Sweden. Syrians often mention that they ‘re going to relatives in Germany (where they already transferred the money).
E.g. Malta does not let in a single boat, and they must face Italy already at sea and be collected by the Italian Coast Guard to e.g. Sicily. Here they are on the shore… those who have survived the pass over. Sicilian police have recently arrested a trafficker in Tunisia who made ??millions on “tickets to the other side.” In Sicily, they end up in a former U.S. military base, get 30 euros / day. If they get sent home, they receive a one payment of ? 500 in their pocket.

Folk d?r varje dag i havet.

dag. Om de skickas hem, f?r de en eng?ngssumma p? ? 500 i fickan.

Renzi in Siracusa, Sicily

The prime minister Renzi visited a school in Sicily with big promises and cuddling words.?

Renzi visited the school Raiti. The he told the mayors of the province: I urge you not to resign and I guarantee that the government will be your companion on the road
“There are 2 billion Euros ready for school construction.” Then Prime Minister announced that next Wednesday they will present the plan. “The new government has an idea for the development of this area,” said Renzi.

So, today it seems that the new school support will be funded by new taxes. Italian families already pays for a school fee. And the famous plan did not show much action, just the tax.

Soource: La Sicilia 5/3-2014, TG3

Renzi bes?kte skolan Raiti.

My only socio-political opinion in Italy

I never thought that Italy’s problem is the politicians fault, for if a society works or does not work actually depends on the family structure. So says even the Italians; the people, politics, the law and the church.
If a society does not work, it’s because the family structure does not work. Everything in society depends on how children are raised for these children are then sitting in Parliament, government offices, banks, schools, healthcare etc.. If they can not take care of themselves, how will they then be able to take care of a country?
This is my only socio-political opinion in Italy…but I never say it straight to Italians, because they do not want to hear and there it is actually nothing that I care about. Have seen enough these five years.
It is the children who are the future, not the parents!

As the mother bird, she pushes her baby birds from the nest, to try their own wings and then they can fly by themselves.

Nuff’ said…

During the trip to Sweden…

…the sicilian ex-president Lombardo got convicted to a jail sentence of 6 years and 8 months for his personal affairs, mafia affairs.
