Baroque Sicily – Ragusa Ibla

Ragusa Ibla is one of the most beautiful areas in Sicily. A small baroque town built after the most devastating earthquake in Sicilian history 1693. Ragusa Ibla became famous after TV-series “Commissarie Montalbano” and has in short time developed from an almost abandoned area to a “place to see” in Sicily. It is also part of the so called Baroque Trail that goes all the way to Syracuse covering the most important baroque sites on the island.

Became part of Unesco Heritage 2002. Surrounded by the Iblea mountains gives a flourish green area with the typical limestone, used also in construction. Great areas for trekking.

The Valley of the Temples

The Temple Valley just by Agrigento in south Sicily is a must see if you visit this amazing island. Here you walk in the Magna Graecia era among Doric temples breathing thousands of years of history. Walking by the temple of Athena and Zeus with breattaking views over the area and sea. The Valley is a Unesco heritage since 1997. I recommend to take the guided tour. Can you imagne these temples were colored during the era? Amazing!

Volcanic island Vulcano and its mud baths

Vulcano is one more island in the series of Aeolian Islands. It is a very small island, famous for its mud baths. Please do note that your skin will be amazing, but you will smell some after the mud bath, so take some less fancy clothes with you to put on after the shower. Here I also found a wonderful shop just by the mud baths where they sell clothes in natural materials and unique decorations. Vulcano has a small village you pass just in couple of minutes, but the drinks and appetizers are very good.

Stromboli: Pictures says more than 1000 words

Stromboli has become a favourite island. Aeolian Islands are in the Unesco world heritage list. Just after the view point piazza on the right there is also my favourite store, they make and design their clothes themselves… A little bit further the roads divide, go right and have something to eat and drink in that cosy restaurant just there…
